So I’m saving for a Migidoll Owen head right now and decided to look up resin matches on DoA and found out that there could be a good chance that Doll Family resin will be a decent match for my to-be Owen head. :D This is awesome for 2 reasons.

I’ve actually had my eye on the 63cm DF-A boy body for a little while now and rather like how it looks. :D Ooeeooee!

But mostly the first reason. If I get the chance to be cheap in this hobby, I’m on that shit like white on rice, yo. 8D

But seriously, anyone else a little tired of the type of peeps that go all, “Umm, dude, SD, MSD, and YoSD are actually Volks dolls and hurpadurpjfdkslfjdskl.”? It mostly bothers me when they’re bringing this kind of shit up with newbs who are all, “Is so-and-so doll a SD/MSD/YoSD doll?” and they really don’t give a flying rat’s butt about the history of Volks and their part in the beginning of the “main stream” BJD world. Or whatever.

Decided to go and make these guys in that anime generator thingy. xD These crazy kids are Nobuyuki’s friends and bandmates, and they all got their roots in crossoveranimedom. XD I haven’t done any roleplaying with them outside of my head, but whatevs! Now let me share character info, because I do love to share shit no one really cares about. :D

Prepare yourself for LOTS OF FUCKING TEXT!

Sachi Sokai is Hiei’s (from Yu Yu Hakusho) and Riyo’s (one of my oldest and longest lasting characters EVAR) daughter, which of course makes her half demon and half human. Hiei wasn’t really a part of her life ‘cause he’s a butthole, so Riyo raised her as a single mother. Because of her particular lineage (Riyo being Genkai’s granddaughter and Hiei being a, well, demon) she has always been very spiritually aware (very much like her uncle Kuwabara and Shizuru) and stronger than normal humans. Throughout her childhood and on into her teenage years she has been trained in fighting by Yusuke Urameshi, whom she looks to as a father/big brother figure. Anyway, she goes to high school with the Bleach crew and is friends with Ichigo and his homie Gs.

As far as her personality goes, Sachi has picked up on bits of Yusuke’s personality since she has hung out around him for a good chunk of her life, so she can be just as much of a cocky smartass as him, but she is far more level-headed than her sensei and is always open and friendly with her friends and strangers (unless they give her a reason not to be, of course). Sachi is a very truthful and straight-up type of person however, and that usually leads her to saying things that make some around her uncomfortable in one way or another. xD

Her position in her and her friends band is lead female singer and main bass player.

Nobuyuki Naga has her roots in the Katekyo Hitman Reborn fandom! I haven’t really come up with too much for her at the time. ^^; But umm…yeah! So miss Nobuyuki goes to the same high school as Tsunayoshi Sawada and the rest of those jerks and is a huge fan of the opposite sex. XD So naturally, she eventually gets herself acquainted with a majority of Tsuna’s friends, though she has a particularly soft spot for Hayato Gokudera. Anyway, because of her constant flirtings with just about any cute guy at her school (and outside of school too!), she isn’t the most popular among other girls and is usually a target of some of the more psycho girls’ bullying, but she is rather thick-headed so it doesn’t bother her nearly as much as it should.

Also, she dyes her hair crazy colors often (she usually wears a wig to school to keep out of trouble with the teachers) and all of her friends call her “Yuki” for short (except Sachi, whom calls her “Nobu”).

She has an almost bubbly personality, seems to be constantly have her mind up in the clouds, and is a very persistent gal, so boys beware! She will wiggle her way into your heart whether you like it or not. XD Despite seeming to be a total ditz, she’s actually very studious and usually gets good grades.

Nobu is the lead guitarist in the band and is steadily working on being able to play any and all stringed instruments (or, at least, a lot of different types). She also does back-up singing from time to time.

Amaya Yu is the youngest of 3 kids (and the only daughter) and lives in a cozy apartment with her older brother Nori and her parents (her eldest brother, Jin-ho Yu, is in his early 20s and out living on his own). She is closest to her dad and eldest brother, since the three of them are on the same wavelength as far as their personalities and tastes go. She went to middle school (and now high school) with Daisuke Niwa and those other peeps from the DNAngel universe, and is good friends with wittle cutie Daisuke and converses with Satoshi every now and then when they happen to be stuck together for whatever reason. She also dated Dark for a while, but broke things off because she found herself becoming increasingly unhappy during their relationship and didn’t feel it was fair putting herself, or Dark, through it any longer.

At some point, she ended up meeting the members of BLAST (Nana, Nobu, Shin, and Yasu) by chance while hanging out with her brother Jin-ho and his bandmates during a recording. She becomes fairly close to Shin, but she isn’t ready to start dating again and has a feeling Shin has other things going on in his love life anyway, so she is just fine and dandy to have him as a guy friend. Amaya was also previously acquainted with Takumi, but she really doesn’t like him.

Random tidbit: Amaya is very passionate of cinematography and wants to get into the television/movie business at some point in her life.

Overall, when you first meet her, she seems very bland and quiet and the type to keep to herself most of the time, which, to be honest, is pretty true. But deep down she is a warm-hearted girl with simple tastes, wants and needs, and can be a bit old fashioned when it comes to love. She’s fearless and to-the-point though and dislikes it when people aren’t up-front with her and can be on the harsh side when she feels she has been betrayed. She’s the type that will tell you what she REALLY thinks if you ask for her opinion.

In the band, she is the drummer and also enjoys rapping. She is also adept at break dancing.

Nori Yu is Amaya’s older brother and is fruitier than fruit salad. As far as his family goes, he is closet with his and Amaya’s mother and will frequently do things with her whenever he can. He went to the same schools as Amaya and so is also naturally acquainted with Daisuke and Satoshi. In fact, he’s more than acquainted with Daisuke, he’s dating him. xD

Nori is a fairly bubbly and optimistic kind of guy, but don’t even think about hurting the people he cares about because he’ll go all Rambo on your ass. As a big brother, he is naturally protective of his younger sister, especially after Jin-ho moved out and basically left most of the brothering up to him. He is a very loving and affectionate person when it comes to dating and will constantly dote upon his significant other. He doesn’t care if he’s the “top” or “bottom” of the relationship (hell, he’ll switch between the two if he has to), just as long as he can be with the person he loves. The downside to this though is that he takes rejection, arguments and break ups pretty bad, and has been known to live off of cookie dough icecream and daytime tv for weeks.

Did I mention he has a tenancy to be over-dramatic?

In the band, he is the lead male singer and plays bass guitar in place of Sachi from time to time. Like Amaya, he is also a fan of break dancing.

Jian Hye originally lived with her parents in South Korea, but after an accident that led to their deaths, she moved to Japan to live with her godmother. She ended up meeting Amaya during an art show her godmother was running and eventually met the rest of the crew through her. She goes to Ouran Academy (thought you escaped the fandom shit didn’t ya?) and knows the Host Club members through Haruhi. As far as the Hosts go, she prefers to hang out with Mori, Hani and Kyoya, but moreso outside of the club. She has a crush on Kyoya, but because of his cool exterior, she’s too intimidated to try approaching him in that particular way, at least at the time. Outside of school, Jian likes to practice ballet and hangout with Amaya.

Jian is fairly average as far as her friends go. Not too quiet and not too loud. She has the tendency to be kind of “just there” at times, especially when she’s with her more rambunctious friends. She does have a more passionate and wild side to her, but it’s normally hidden way deep down under all of those pesky insecurities and emotions. She is more the type to be a support to her friends and enjoys listening and watching more than talking.

When it comes to the band, Jian plays on the keyboard/piano when the song calls for it, otherwise, she’s usually a back-up singer or just part of the fanbase, cheering the rest of them on. She’s also dabbling a bit in playing the other instruments so she can take over for someone if they can’t play for whatever reason.

Other bits of info:

Sachi and Nobuyuki are Japanese, Amaya and Nori are Korean-Japanese, and Jian is Korean.
Sachi & Nobu = BFFs
Amaya & Jian = BFFs
Nori = FOREVER ALONE /shot
Sachi and Nobu met while they were in elementary school and Nobu eventually met Amaya and Nori during their middle school years. Amaya didn’t meet Jian until the summer before her first year in high school.
Nobu lives with her grandmother. I’m still trying to figure out what I want to have happened with her parents (none of the ideas are particularly pleasant).
Sachi is the oldest of the group (18), then it’s Nori (17), Nobu (16), Amaya (16), and Jian (16).
Brain roleplay crossovers don’t have to make sense. So…yes, it’s totally possibly that all these peeps can meet up enough to do band and friend things on a regular basis, even if all their schools would technically be in different towns. In my brain, they are all in one stupidly large city. Plot holes, hecks yes.
I plan to get this whole crew as BJDs one day. Already got Nobuyuki (she’s a KDF Bory). Sachi will be a DZ Annie, Amaya a KDF Salgoo, Nori MIGHT be a DOC Tender Yen, and Jian will be a MNF Luka.
My mind is a crossover clusterfuck. You don’t even wanna know.

So, when I was younger and lived in NH, every month I would sit back and wait for one thing. My Shojo Beat to come in the mail. For anybody who doesn’t know, Shojo Beat is essentially Shonen Jump for people who are hopeless romantics (and yeah, targeted toward girls, but guys got it, too). My friends and I would all read the stories and articles and swoon and sigh and be all girly together. They’ve cancelled Shojo Beat by now, it wasn’t popular enough (I’d still be reading it if it wasn’t) but I still have every copy I ever got.

To the subject, though. One time I got home from school and pounced at my Shojo Beat like usual. This issue was unique, though. Aside from the chocolate green tea recipe that I desperately tried to find the ingredients for, something caught my eye.

It was an article about Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls. They were the most amazing things I had ever seen. And I ended up online looking them up before finishing the entire magazine. I was amazed. I was a child in awe at a candy shop. But I was also a shit-poor child in awe at a candy shop in Beverly Hills (the candy is more expensive there, right?). ABJDs are incredibly expensive. So I forgot about it. Sometimes when I needed a reference for drawing, I would go and look them up, because they’re great anatomical models, but I basically tried to ignore them.

It’s been at least five years since then, maybe more.

Recently, however, my best friend found a beautiful doll named Seradis (a Doll Love Alice with a custom faceup, if anybody’s interested). Of course, such a huge reminder made me look them up again. And now, of course, I want one. I want one to customize and dress and take pictures of and use to help me improve my drawings. My Mom used to collect porcelain dolls when I was little. This is like that, except…well, yeah, this is kind of like that.

I just…I’m having so much trouble. I think I want a ¼ sized doll because of the price and a 1/3 is kind of big for my taste, but when I look at the 1/3 sized dolls, they seem to have a different, more shojo-y shape. Is that my eyes trying to get me to spend more money? Because the damn things do that. So, are the proportions that dramatically different?

Also! There are mixed reviews about IpleHouse’s dolls. Some people say their mobility is limited. Is this to an extreme point?

And Island Doll’s Amy. I’ve heard their proportions are odd compared to other brands and that it’s hard to find clothing that fits. Does anybody have this problem with an Island Doll?

And I’d love any suggestions/feedback/comments/anything about your BJDs. So…shoot?!

Also, can someone give me a heads up on what you use to seal your Monster High’s faceup shit? Don’t think MSC can be used in this case. XD

Especially when I’ve been up since 11pm (it is now 3pm) and even I don’t know EXACTLY what it is I need because people on DoA can be ridiculously vague at times.

“Really? I need paint thinner you say? Think you could point a n00b into the general direction of a brand? No? Okay then. I guess I’ll use water. You say I shouldn’t use water? Ahhh…alright. So how ‘bout those thinner brands? /bashesfaceintowall”

I am a fucking n00b to painting gaiz. I don’t know if it’s all gewd to use “thespofidskfds/monalisa odorless thinner” for “artist oils” with my acrylic paints on my resin and Monster High dolls.

Brightside: Finally got me some Shounen Jump (but I missed, like…1 or 2 issues…) and I found some cheap little keychain shoes at JoAnns for 1 dorrah each. They’re blue with little monkeys on them. They look kinda big on my KDF girl, and they’re tight on my YID girl…so idk what size they are “officially”. Currently in the process of turning one of the left shoes into a right.

Running real low on the stuff that came with a little paint set I got from VolksUSA. I’m quite close to just overpaying shipping for the shit they have available. :B prz halp, y'all. i r ignorant n00b

Fuck you, VolksUSA, and your limited shipping options. :/

I figured I’d go and MAYBE buy the $4 thinner they have, since it has worked pretty well for me in the past. Well guess what? To ship to Southeast Alaska, they wanna charge me $40 through UPS Ground, and $30 via USPS Express, which are the only shipping options they have for the US. :/ …how about you fucktards incorporate some cheaper shipping options for those of us only buying one or two really cheap things? Oh wait, that’d actually make sense. If you guys were rational, then your fans might be too and wouldn’t charge $300+ for a BASIC doll head from your company. Can’t have that!

Honestly, I wouldn’t be so pissed if I actually wanted anything else from Volks, but I just want some goddamn paint thinner. I saw some at Amazon made by TESTORS, but they won’t ship to me.

Y'all should really stop worrying so much about your first ball-jointed doll. Just find the doll with the look you like best (and within your price range for those of you on a tight budget) and save/buy the damn thing. You can worry about posing and the body and blahblahblah with your second doll (or if you decide to hybrid your first doll). Chances are high that your first doll will just be standing/sitting around looking pretty for a couple of weeks until you finally get the courage to really mess with them.

You’re a newbie, gaiz. You don’t need to worry about all the other shit until you know, first hand, what these dolls are all about.

Of course, this is coming from someone who bought her first doll on a whim (thank you 2008 PFD) and proceeded to jump, head first, into all that other dolly goodness, and is now completely and utterly obsessed with just about anything doll-related, so maybe you shouldn’t listen to me… o A o;;
